Charities and Causes
Below is a list of charities and causes that either I support myself or my family (spouse and me) support together. For the charities listed here, I have researched their credibility. For the causes, most of them I have become involved in through online participation. Online participation is an easy and effective way to get involved. The convenience of point and click to submit information has made involvement relatively easy.
Below is a list of charities which my wife, Jody, and myself have chosen to give to over the years. These charities, we have felt, fill an important role in the community. We have been touched by either their staff or personnel, and have done research to see where our donated support is going. In all cases, we have found that these below charities warrant repspect and praise for the selfless and good deeds which they are doing. Charities Mercy Corps St. Jude Children's Research Hospital The Children of War These causes listed below are important to me. For one, I love nature, and the NRDC stands up to protect natural environments and ecosystems from the greed and arrogance of large, impersonalized corporate interests, who lobby our government to get them to vote according to their desires. Causes Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) SaveTheInternet.com
In fact, one such group which I became involved in is the Natural Resources Defense Council or NRDC. Their mission is to safeguard fragile natural habitats from greedy corporate interests, and they have created an action web site, SaveBiogems.org which makes it convenient and easy to get involved.
Back to top The SavetheInternet.com Coalition is more than a million everyday people who have banded together with thousands of non-profit organizations, businesses and bloggers to protect Internet freedom. The Coalition believes that the Internet is a crucial engine for economic growth and free speech. We are working together to urge Congress to preserve Network Neutrality, the First Amendment of the Internet, which ensures that the Internet remains open to new ideas, innovation and progress. Back to top Back to top St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has the unique feature that, all patients accepted for treatment at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are treated without regard to the family's ability to pay. This one promoted fact causes us to give to them. Also, they provide accomodations for family members of sick children, even if they cannot pay. Discoveries made here have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases
Back to top The Children of War was started by Najib Aziz, an immigrant from the country of Afghanistan. I looked up this organization online after the events of September 11, 2001. I wanted to make a difference. After reading and hearing the news of the devestation of the country of Afghanistan, first by the Soviet Union in the 1980's and then later in the 1990's by the Taliban, I learned that many orphans raom the streets looking for a way to survive. Najib started The Children of War to "focus on providing the most needy children and disabled citizens of Afghanistan with a primary education, a nutritious diet, and valuable job skills through the three schools we operate in the city of Kabul and district of Paghman within Afghanistan. " I have had several at length telephone conversations with Najib over the years and believe him to be respectable and helping these children who have been devestated by the effects of continual war.
