Early Childhood Educator: Tom Racanelli

I have always been interested in working with children. In fact, when I was in my young 20's, I got a job as a yard duty for an elementary school nearby the University I was attending (San Jose State University). At one point, my Mom, who lived nearby, phoned for me at the elementary school, and reached the Principal. The Principal told her that I had a "gift for working with children."

Ever since then, in one way or another, I have attempted to work with young children. I worked at the renown Children's Preschool Center in Palo Alto, CA; and then I finished my bachelor's degree at Humboldt State University majoring in Child Development.

Although my emphasis has been on early childhood education (the preschool years), I am also been a volunteer and subsitute for the San Diego Catholic elementary schools.

A couple of years ago, I bought a clown costume for Halloween, and noticed that the young children ( 2-5 years old) really got a kick out of it. So, I have made myself available as a clown for birthday parties and other events!

My main emphasis as an educator has been on early childhood education with an emphasis on development of the whole child. This includes: language, cognitive, physical, tactile, emotional, social/interactive, technical/logical, and creativity.
