Web Site Design and Programming Services
Examples

Although the two worlds of web site design and web programming are separate and not equal, it has been my experience that they are interwoven and interconnected in many ways. To effectively program, the programmer needs to be aware of some design elements and practices. To effective design, the designer needs to have an awareness of programming requirements, syntax, and browser related issues. So, I still think the successful web profressional has to classify him/her self as one or the other, but that being said, he/she may very well be able to cross over into the other world as well

And that is how I view myself as a web designer. Technically speaking, I am more of a programmer, but practically speaking, I do a lot of design!

The brunt of my design experience involves utilizing Adobe PhotoShop to produce web-ready images and to create and enhance digital photos for use on web sites. I strive to create simple, professional, and colorful layouts which engage the user, who I know is only going to give me 7 seconds of his/her time initially. I don't want to lose them! To do that, my interface must be simple and concise, the information easily presented and navigatable. This is what I strive for in the elements of web site design.

It is important to think ahead as well when it comes to design. For example, how large will this site be? Does it need to adhere to strict uniformity? Or, will it be jumping all around with different colors and layouts in its differents sections?

Equally important, is this site cross-browser compatible? Do I know my audience's preferences? And, will I need to port this site over in the future (1, 3, or 5 years out) into a different design?

These are all relevant questions which need to be asked--at the beginning of the design process.

Example Sites:
Below are samples of sites I have created and managed. Below the thumbnail of each site is the relevant work and technologies utilized.

Irish Charm

Sample Sample
This site uses ASP.NET. I created a custom shopping cart, hooked up to a MS Access database. This site is database driven and handles all transactions over HTTPS (secure transfer protocol).

California Western School of Law

With this site, I was hired to create a site which could be managed easily by different departments. Using classic ASP, I designed the site to pass in the main content pages via the querystring (everything after the "?" in the URL). This way the main content, such as logo, left hand navigation and footer, could be kept separated, managed by the webmaster and easily updatable for future releases. I also created a custom CMS (content management system) for the different departement's to use to update their pages.

Drinking and Driving.org

Sample
This site uses a Microsoft Sql database without over 5,000 county records. I was hired to merge the data from huge (1 - 3 GB text files) into MS Sql. I also created the web pages which handle the display of the records, and created it so that it only displays each county's data.

Sunfire Enterprises Inc.

This is an example of a Flash site.

International Christian Adoptions

Sample Sample
A lot of my work is for non-profits. This is an example of a simple site for a company which helps people with adoptions.

San Diego Writers Ink

Sample Sample
Another example of a non-profit site for a Writer's Group in San Diego.
